How to Choose DD+ Swimwear
Think about which bra shape is comfortable in every day life and the shape of your breasts. If you lack volume in your breasts, perhaps as a result of breastfeeding, then a balconnet or plunge bikini top will give you a cleavage boost. Bandeau bikini tops with firm moulded cups will also give breasts a volume boost and this is especially true for styles which contain light padding.
Alternatively, if you are looking to minimise cleavage, or prefer a more modest bikini top, then non padded full-cup bikini tops are your best option, followed in second place by non moulded, soft cup bandeau bikinis (always available with optional straps are Airy Mary).
Larger than a G cup?
Although halter bikinis are wonderfully flattering for all fuller bust shapes, they can create pressure on the neck, so it is extra important to choose a bikini top with a wide, supportive band if you opt for halter styles.
Different Size Breasts
Asymmetry in breasts is very common. Many of our bikini tops are pocketed and some come with lightweight push up pads which can be used to even out the shape. Always choose the bikini size that fits your largest breast and feel free to drop us an email if you'd like advice on which styles are pocketed, or need a free push up pad added to your order. In more serious cases of asymmetry, breast forms suitable for swimming may be obtained from post-surgery stores, or with advice from your local women's health centre.
Cup Size versus Dress Size when Buying a Swimsuit or Tankini
This can be a tricky dilemma. Let's say that your bust size is 34F, but you are a size 18 on the hips. In dress sizing a 34 band is equal to dress size 12. Therefore swimsuits labelled 34F will have a waist and hip ratio to fit a UK size 12 (US size 8). However, you want supportive cup sized swimwear. What do you do? The answer is Sister Sizing. You go up one or two bands, but down 1 or 2 cup sizes. The same volume will be in the cup, but the band will be bigger - however there are usually 3 hooks - so you wear it on the tightest. A 34F with bigger hips could try a 36E or possibly a 38DD. fGoing 1 step away from your cup size, rather than 2 is preferred. Alternatively, get a perfect fit top and bottom by switching to two-piece swimwear. That's why sales of bikinis and tankinis sold as separates is increasingly dramatically each year.
There really is no end of choice for DD+ swimwear these days and we're passionate about showcasing the very best from each brand this season.
