For those who loved Harry Potter

Darker by far, but with the same thrilling immersive story telling, Miss Peregrines home for Peculiar Children is an unforgettable Young Adult novel that really delivers some spine-tingling chills - just right for a hot beach read! The storyline includes a mysterious island off the coast of Wales, a collection of strange photographs and sixteen year old Jacob, who must try and discover the reasons behind a terrible family disaster. it seems that a hundred years ago, peculiar children were abandoned at Miss Peregrines Home for the good of all concerned and even though a century has passed, they may still be alive. How good is it? So good that Tim Burton is currently filming it - expect a late summer premiere in cinemas.

Contemporary thriller with a female protagonist

Kay Sextons Gatekeeper explores what happens when a pack of wolves is secretly released into the Scottish Highlands with only one young woman to stand between them and the community. Claire Benson is the Gatekeeper and we follow her journey from new recruit to undercover animal rights activist, and her romantic life too, as she falls in love and must decide whether to do whats right for her, or for the wolf pack to which shes dedicated herself. With martial arts, wild adventures and quite a bit of sex, this is one of those books that you can hand to the man in your life with total confidence that hes going to love it as much as you do. Perfect for those who enjoy Steig Larsson and Jane Smiley.

For fans of Fifty Shades of Grey

Id never set out to snag Mr Right but Id veered so far off that track I was now at the mercy of Mr Dangerously Wrong…’ Brighton-based Kristina Lloyd is an accomplished writer of erotic fiction, with awards to her name and her novel, Thrill Seeker is very sexy, quite transgressive and, as the title suggests, a real thriller, with lots of full-on sex. Obviously we dont want to give away too much, but the heres a teaser; Natalie Lovell has been let down by her current lover and decides to take some risks but how far will she go to find the dominance she craves? This is a great beach companion, but make sure youve got a more innocent book to cover it with when you go for a dip, unless you want to be the talk of the resort!

Historical thriller with real grit

Child 44 is a guaranteed page turner. By British author Tom Rob Smith, this book has been labelled one of the top 100 thrillers of all time! Does it live up to the hype? Well, its a historical novel set in Stalinist Russia, with a romantic hero, Leo Demidov, who is forced to accept that the country he loves is betraying its citizens and who is ordered to spy on his own beloved wife. Then he realises that a serial killer is rampaging through crimeless USSRand must hunt the monster down against impossible odds - including the whole might of Soviet Russia which claims the murderer cannot exist in the perfect Soviet state. Just make sure you dont leave it lying around or less scrupulous holidaymakers might borrow it for their own sun-lounger entertainment! Will suit fans of Lee Child and Robert Harris.
