Vintage Swimwear and Champagne

We love vintage swimwear too and add to stock as many vintage-inspired prints and styles as possible!

Vintage Swim Day | It's our kind of party!

This week, Tooting Bec Lido in London plays host to a vintage party today sponsored by Moet Chandon. Members of a swing dance club added glamour and set the scene for the festivities in an eclectic mix of vintage swimwear.

What an inspired choice of location for a '50s themed champagne launch. This fabulous lido is one the oldest open air pools in the UK, dating back to 1906. In those days men and women were segregated, and it wasn't until the '30s that limited periods of mixed bathing were introduced. Cubicles and a cafe were also introduced in the '30s and the term 'lido', borrowed from Italy, came into vogue. In those days much of the swimwear would have been hand-made at home in thick cotton whilst more wealthy bathers would have purchased from a department store or had the garment made at a corsetiere with bespoke fittings.

Alternating bright red, yellow and blue doors above the turquoise water make the lido a popular location for shooting advertisements and films. Even Brad Pitt has been filmed at Tooting Bec Lido! We can't help wish that there were more opportunities to get into vintage swimwear and re-live the glory days of these iconic pools.
